In today’s fast-paced world, we encounter so many instances when relationships break due to a lack of proximity between partners. Recently, I had a conversation with a newly married friend of mine whose husband was living in another city. She poured out her woes to me. She was really feeling lonely and mourned that she had to drive nearly 200 km to meet her husband on weekdays and holidays.
This really left her tired, and in fact, she even mentioned that the problem was leading to friction between the tw of them. My friend is a career oriented woman, and did not want to give up her job.
For people who are having problems maintaining a long-distance relationship, my advice is to make utmost use of technology to beat the gap.
Ways to Use Tech to Have a Better Relationship
1. Talk to Your Partner
Make sure you contact your partner every day or once in two days for at least 10 minutes over skype or some other app. Have a heart-to-heart chat with your partner. This will keep your relationship alive. Make sure you discuss interesting things, such as what you would like to do the next time you meet or when you would like to start a family. Anything goes.
2. Are You Texting?
Text each other frequently. Make sure your messages to your partner are sweet, thoughtful and exciting. This will make them look forward to meeting you again. You can send messages that will make the two of you long to be in each other’s arms. Send images of you daily, love poems if you write poetry, jokes, or anything else you can think of that will please your partner. The sky is the limit.
3. Be in Sync With Each Other’s Goals
Create a common repository where you can add wishes and anecdotes. For instance, you can use a shared calendar. The two of you can fill the calendar with several things. For example, if you had met each other for the first time on Wednesday, then make a pact with your partner that of every week’s Wednesday, you and your partner will add some interesting anecdotes from your courting days. Make sure your messages strike a chord with your partner.
4. Social Media
In these days of cutting-edge technology, there are several social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. You can use this to your advantage by sending beautiful posts and tweets tagging your partner. Make sure you comment on each other’s posts and tweets.
5. Go on Dates
Use a digital notebook to keep track of all the important dates in your partner’s life and make sure that you wish them on these dates. You can maybe give them a huge surprise by visiting them too.
All these gestures are of utmost importance. As it can be seen, that the most important factor in maintaining a long-distance relationship is proper communication so, the spark never goes away. Modern technology has made long distances relationships relatively easy.
So, it’s best to make the most of the advantages technology provides you.
