Cyber crimes are crimes related to information and technology or criminal cyber-attacks that occurred through the medium of cyberspace. Cyber crimes fall under the category of Modern Organized White-collar crimes.
Cyber threats are the threats that infiltrate via the usage of the internet, computers, social media, or any other communication device that uses cyberspace. These crimes can be performed against individuals or groups.
According to Dr. Debarati Halder and Dr. Jaishankar, cybercrimes are offenses committed against individuals or groups of individuals with a criminal intent to intentionally harm the reputation of the victim, directly or indirectly, by utilizing modern telecommunication networks such as the Internet, mobile phones, etc.
It could compromise data breaches, ransomware attacks, phishing attacks, malicious email attachments, cyber terrorism, hacking, identity theft, cyber security breaches, espionage, sabotage, etc
Cyber crime statistics 2022
According to the Forbes Report on Cybercrime Statistics For Mid-Year 2022, cyber criminals are able to hack into 93% of any company’s network. This report also indicated that on average a cyber attack happens within two days on the company’s network.
In intense research on cyber crime statistics worldwide, across 16 countries by Thoughlabs, a report titled “Cybersecurity Solutions for a Riskier World,” in 2022 represents $125.2 billion of annual cybersecurity spending. It was revealed that cyber security post-pandemic had reached a critical infection point. Cybersecurity budgets as a percentage of firms’ total revenue jumped 51%, from 0.53% to 0.80%.
